Naming Turtle Haven

Picture
No, there are not turtles physically roaming on the land.

The North American continent is referred to as “Turtle Island” in many First Nation people’s folklore. It is said that the Turtle carried the weight of the land of that continent on her back. In many Asian cultures, the turtle is the animal carrying Mother Earth and holding the world in balance.  The turtle carries its home wherever it roams.

Turtle teaches us about steadily and serenely walking a path in peace. While slow moving on earth, a turtle is also fast and agile in water.  Retreat is an integral part of turtle’s structure, symbolically encouraging us to take a break in our busy lives and look around or within for more grounded, long-lasting solutions. Turtle connects us with the ancient wisdom of the earth.

We listened for a name and found it in a slower moving younger family member who had the medicine we and the culture so clearly needed, thus Turtle Haven came into being.
