Artist, Writer and Maker
Creative retreat time is a way to experience what Pablo Picasso knew, “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” There may be an idea or an image that has been calling and shelved, awaiting your full attention. In an uninterrupted time and space, creative expression has a way of moving us toward mystery, toward unremembered experience, toward rekindling relationship with source material that inspires. Tucked away in a quiet forest setting with the sound of the river humming, a visitation by an unexpected notion or sighting that asks for form is often the waking dream beginning of creation. New images and metaphors may reveal their insights, reflecting the times we are in, a creative form of activism. Marc Chagall declared that, “Great art picks up where nature ends.” Work by local friends of the Forest Hermitage hangs on the walls and an evolving book of poems and writings awaits your perusal. A space needs a maker as much as a maker needs a space.
